SEVEN SEAS PRESENTS BOOGIEPOP COMMERCIALS

(Los Angeles, January 17, 2006) - Seven Seas Entertainment has unveiled what fandom thought they’d never see: the first of MediaWorks’ fully-animated Boogiepop commercials subtitled in English and available for free online.

In Japan, Boogiepop novel publisher MediaWorks produced a series of commercials to help promote the release of several of the novels from Kouhei Kadono's unforgettable series. Much like the character of Boogiepop himself, these commercials have become the stuff of urban legend. Featuring fully animated short clip sequences pulled directly from the novels and using Kouji Ogata's own character designs, each commercial is a visually eye-catching tour de force that surpasses the animation quality seen in Boogiepop Phantom. To quote issue 85 of Anime News Network's Protoculture Addicts, "These ads never made it across the Pacific with either [the anime] Boogiepop Phantom or [the movie] Boogiepop and Others, and probably never will."

Until now, that is.

"The second I found out these Boogiepop commercials existed, being the deep-rooted otaku that I am, begged that we somehow try and get a hold of them," says Adam Arnold, senior editor in charge of licensed manga at Seven Seas. "You can imagine my surprise when I heard we got the green light. This is the coolest 30 seconds of animation you’ll ever see."

The first 30 second commercial spotlighting Seven Seas’ February 2006 release of Kouhei Kadono’s Boogiepop and Others novel is viewable at Seven Seas Entertainment’s web site Gomanga.com.

This is so awesome! It truly looks like something that can or might have aired on television, or at the very least those teaser previews some anime has before the actual show on the DVD. Very cool and very unique!

The first 30 second commercial by the way?

I remember seeing this commerical, along with two others, about two years online - albeit low quality. Very nice to be able to view in high quality. Thanks.

Make me want to pick up the anime! I didn't know that the illustrator for the novels and manga also did the character designs for the anime! :)

Makes me really long for the novel, which I guess is the point  .

I know how you feel, I actually checked some bookstores today during lunch time and hoped they would have it about a month early  .

That's true. The 2 commercials have been available for all people on internet few years ago, but the official website have closed.

Even if it was already available, I'm happy to discover better quality files today, thanks GoManga !

These commercials have been directed by Kazuto Nakazawa (the character-designer of Samurai Champloo).

Makes me wish that the novels had gotten thier own series, in addition to the in-betweener that is boogiepop phantom. They've got enough material to go for several seasons. I wonder why they didn't?

Yes, a new Boogiepop anime would be dreams come true. They ought to do a new TV series adapting as many novels as possible. 52 episodes would be great ^^. It would be the true Boogiepop animated version.
I hope in the near future Madhouse and VAP remember the shinigami's whistle, and that Mediaworks gives more attention to the franchise's potential.

What about a petition?? LOL ^^

Boogiepop still has novels coming out in Japan, but its prime was back in 2000 when the movie and anime first came out. I don't think there's much chance of a new anime being made.

I already saw this commercial, well two of them, the commercial from Boogiepop and others and the Boogiepop at dawn. I have the first one but I lost the commercial from "at dawn" :anger2: But is there another commercial :?:
If that's the case which novel belongs :?:

]Why seven seas release just one commercial and doesn't release the other two :?:

There are only two commercials (for Boogiepop & Others and Boogiepop at Dawn), though they possess other versions in different lenghts (shorter and longer ones).

We haven't released any other books that had commercials, so we haven't had to request them from Media Works yet. They had the Boogiepop and Others one on their website with a new end hyping book 14, so Media Works let us have that one. As for others? We're not exactly sure how many exist other than the two basic ones everyone knows about (Others and At Dawn). But we can only release what we're given, though.
